Saul Bellow won the Nobel Prize, the Pulitzer Prize for Humboldt's Gift, and three National Book awards, making him perhaps the most celebrated writer in America.

Mr. Bellow claimed that he avoided teaching creative writing, "because I didn't have the heart to tell these people that they didn't have the stuff."
